Bull. Dog.

Right... I apologise for the shitty quality of this pic... again but my scanner is somewhat knackered and I don't have my camera with me. So... it's a photobooth shot of it... sorry. Anyway.... I was looking at the Best of British tigerprint brief a while ago and whilst I quite liked it, wasn't sure where to start with it. So didn't. But today I felt like drawing a bulldog for some reason. I figured I'd draw it while I had a little enthusiasm. I've had quite a bit on my mind these last 3/4 weeks and have found it difficult to focus on 1 thing. But today, after starting the day hating graphic design and pretty much everything about it (I realise this isn't a good attitude for a graphic design student but I'm trying to be honest with myself as well as anyone reading this), I sat down and drew something i'm actually quite proud of... which doesn't often happen...

Lately...

Lately, I don't know why but I just can't seem to find a lot of illustration that I really like. It's proving a bit annoying because usually if I fnd something I really like, I feel inspired to do something in reaction to it... but this hasn't really been the case just lately. :(

aaaaaand as a papercut

taking a bit of inspiration from Mr Chapman doing a papercut... quite like the outcome but won't be doing another in a hurry... it hurts too much... have officially experienced scapel finger for the first time in a loooooong time. Will stic a better picture of this up when i locate my camera... this is just a scan and looks a bit shite to be fair...

Tiger lily

Hand drawn lyrics from la roux's 'Tigerlily'... i traced the text and then just drew the flowers around it... the text looks a bit lame because the weight of line is inconsistent... i always have this problem whatever i draw... it's annoying. Also the text doesn't show up so well.... photoshop attempts at colouring it looked horrendous... as you can see here

Drew this today while watching x factor... it looks quite dull... like x factor actually... so I'm thinking i might attempt something with the background, but the way things are going at the minute, i'll probably ruin it... moreso.

today...

Today i was trying to set up my website which i bought the domain and everything for a few days ago... I'm not sure why... actually yes I do... I bought it because I didn't want anyone else using my name as website... it's MINE dammit lol. This may seem a bit um.. insane but I happen to know there's a page 3 girl and a porn star who share my name. Scary but true. The thought of them using my name as a website didn't thrill me lol. Anyway I was trying to set it up today. I failed. Too technical. Will try again another day with a little help from Henson hopefully :D. The girl knows too much about... everything haha. I got so far down the line with the setup but it doesn't want to play ball now. I need technical expertise...

Anyhoo, I also started my dissertation research again today. I got books from the library and printed off a load of stuff from jstor to read through but only got my arse into gear, reading a little of it today. I'm feeble. Didn't go so well to be honest. I found it quite dry reading but will try reading something else 2mo and see if it improves...

just doodling and avoiding reading for my dissertation :) except the chin is huge... i have fully lost the ability to draw anything that i end up liking... when did this happen?

an illustration i did today... coloured and full messed up on illustrator... may redraw... hate the black outline round the base of the cup.... this is why people like computer illustrating... so much easier to change things lol... might photoshop it a little to erase some of that nassssty line

Dissertation stuffs...

I finally got my arse into gear and went to the library yesterday. Haven't got much on over the next 3/4 weeks so figured now would be a good time to sit and WORK!!! So... I now have nine books out on the topic of alcohol advertising. I decided to stick with this as the hand rendered graphic design/illustration idea seemed limited to chat forums and stuff... no books and no jstor articles :(

I drew this beastie by hand... I don't know particularly why.. I just fancied drawing a proper bear after the teddy bear ones I did before... I was really pleased with it and then decided to start putting dots on it and properly ruined it... so i'm going to redraw it minus the dots.

icon?

I made this for my Brother and sister in laws wedding anniversary... P and S are their initials... clearly. Anyway it was made for their happy anniversary type card... I stupidly started stitching it out in tiny beads... I don't know what possessed me to start doing it, i don't even like sewing... Anyway the icon itself isn't the greatest piece of design work, but I'm no typographer, I had very little time to do it and I'm showing willing at least haha.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this work. I really like the retro quality to it. There's even a little typography in here which impresses me hugely :D I like the really simple shapes of the character work, and the aged colours... especially the clockwork orange stylie orange and brown

Sanna Annukka

I first came across Sanna Annukka's work a good few years ago when she designed one of Keane's album covers... I got sent a promotional postcard of a red skull hot air balloon not unlike the one shown here... When i googled her name to find some more artwork i discovered that not only is she a really successful illustrator (which is a fear I've recently discovered-I like illustration, but seriously how much work is there out there?), but she's also really pretty. Cow. lol.
